In The Morning I'll Be Gone

The Most Memorable Books: 2014

Because it's been such a stellar year for Crime Fiction - a Most Memorable of the Year List before Christmas seems like a plan in case anybody is thinking about books to spoil themselves / friends / family with. Of course the year isn't over yet and I fully expect a few more "memorables" between now and the end of December, if the previous 11 months have been any indication.

The ones that simply will not go out of my head:

CR - IN THE MORNING I'LL BE GONE, Adrian McKinty

Author Name:

I was reminded again just how bloody good this series is when the first book in the series, The Cold, Cold Ground was discussed on 4MA - the conversation made me go back and rethink the book a lot. This third book showed up in the middle of the conversation which also made it even more anticipated so I've been champing at the bit a little as I had a couple of other books to finish off first.

Just Arrived - In the Morning I'll Be Gone, Adrian McKinty

Author Name:

Can't tell you how pleased I was to open up the parcels this morning and find this gem - although it is a bit bittersweet, what with it being the third book in the Troubles Trilogy. Still - it's a long weekend coming up, and I'm pretty sure that's a slight ... <cough> ... I feel coming on, which might mean that a few engagements might <cough> have to be cancelled as I'd swear this is a tad of a summer <cough> cold I can feel coming on...

Sean Duffy's got nothing. And when you've got nothing to lose, you have everything to gain. So when MI5 come knocking, Sean knows exactly what they want, and what he'll want in return, but he hasn't got the first idea how to get it.

Of course he's heard about the spectacular escape of IRA man Dermot McCann from Her Majesty's Maze prison. And he knew, with chilly certainty, that their paths would cross. But finding Dermot leads Sean to an old locked room mystery, and into the kind of danger where you can lose as easily as winning.
